We will soon be in the extra day of the lobster season, which the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSanti, announced on June 19, for all residents of the State, for July 14.
And as we always want to keep you informed, here we leave you how to measure this species, so that you don't get any surprises when this special day arrives.
FWC states that the measurement must be greater than 3 inches and the measurement must be taken in the water, never out of it. To do this, grab the lobster firmly by the lower part of the thorax (upper part) and measure from the front of the eyes to the back of the Cephalothorax, that is, the union of the upper shell with the abdomen or what is commonly known. like the tail
Remember that the bag limit for this season, extra day July 14 and July 24 and 25, is 6 pieces per person, which must be kept complete.
In this image we show you how to carry out the measurement:
Keep in mind that if the lobster has eggs you must let it go free. This species develops a very fast swimming speed so it can easily escape, so we recommend that when you go to measure it, hold it firmly but not too hard so as not to damage it. If it does not comply with the regulations, try to leave it at the bottom of the sea as much as possible.
We also leave you a video that FWC shares on its website about the 2021 Lobster season, for those who are not familiar with this season. We hope you enjoy it.
