Are there regulations for fishing in Florida?
In the state of Florida there is FWC, which is the entity in charge of establishing fishing regulations. FWC establishes regulations regarding the size and quantities allowed in seasons and places, namely salt water, whether fishing on bridges, on the shore or by boat, and fresh water in lakes, rivers and reservoirs. It is important to highlight that FWC establishes other regulations for fishing, related to the necessary equipment and measures to take into account in cyclonic seasons.
Regarding equipment, can I use any rod, line, hook or lure to fish?
While you can use any equipment to fish; rod, handmade reel, line, hook, lure, it is advisable to analyze the type of fishing you want to do. For each type or type of fishing, Spinning, Trolling, Fly Cast, Bait Cast and Surf Casting, there is specific equipment that you should take into account before going out.
Here we leave you the main differences:
Trolling: Boat fishing with a lure or bait, where the line is cast and worked with the boat moving, allowing the lure or bait to swim at the speed of the boat. The rod has the guides on top and the reel is located in the same way.
Spinning: Fishing where a front reel is used to cast the lure or bait. The rod has the guides underneath just like the reel. It can be done from the shore, bridges or from a boat.
Bait Cast: Similar to Spinning but with another type of reel, Trolling type where the guides go above the rod. The reel is located on the top of the rod and can be identified by the two rotating handles that are next to it and that allow the line to be collected. It is usually used in fresh water.
Fly Cast: Artificial fly fishing that is known for its characteristic flight when casting the line. The drum-shaped reel is located at the bottom of the rod. It is done in fresh water.
Surf Casting: It is known for its way of throwing into the waves, that is, it is done on the beach. It works with a Spinning and/or Trolling reel and rod.
It is important to highlight that apart from this equipment, there is other equipment for the safety of the fisherman (gloves, utensils, tweezers, boxes, bags, cap, sweater, glasses) and for the handling, capture and transportation of fish (dehooker, boat hook, nursery )
